How not to decorate for children (in Switzerland)

We're in Basel, Switzerland for a week's holiday. So far, we have been lazing about, catching up on some sleep, going for a leisurely lunch.

The only thing I can report so far is that the appartment is driving me crazy. (I'm being quite ungrateful. Gift-horse blablabla.) It is the ultimate bachelor pad, and we have a one-year-old and a five-year-old who seem to determined to smother it in chocolate.

I present to you the linen:

And these are the carpets and tables:

Indeed, all white linens, white carpets, glass tables, wooden floors. The table corners attract children's skulls, the carpets and linens are a magnet for dirty paws, and the whole place has this amazing echo when you talk/walk/sing/play. I know - keep breathing, relax.

Oh, and we had lovely crepes in a square which looks like this:

and we had a nap after lunch. I never said it was all bad.

  2. I don't know about children, I wouldn't trust myself in that place.

  4. @Ms. Moon - I think I'll be lazy (it IS my holiday) and buy these cleaning wipes that you throw out. I'm against those, really, but I'm not buying buckets and stuff.

    @SandyCalico - I know! I keep leaving my dark hairs all over the place, and they are SO visible!

    @Maggie May - Naps are everything.

  7. oh my god!!! the FEAR!!!

    look at those sharp bachelor pad glass corners..and the pristine linen, dear god, who are these people???

    in our own house-sitting anxiety, the pool is now turning slightly green, the sink is blocked, there are milk stains on the couch, and I'm very worried about the tortoise who i havent seen for a couple of days

  8. @Christy - I'm not sure about that.

    @Laura Lee - Shall do.

    @Screamish - I feel for you. At least we only have a few rooms to worry about. And no pets.

  9. OMG. I would be panicked and then add the guilt that you're staying there for free! I so hope it survives the child-goop onslaught!
