Here are five of the reasons I love summer:
I was always a jeans and T-shirt person until An showed me the beauty of the dress. You don't have to combine any tops and bottoms, you can choose one to flatter the hell out of your shape, you don't have to deal with the whole builder's crack phenomenon when you sit on a chair/bend to pick up a kid, and it's cheaper because you have to buy fewer pieces. Marie likes to hide underneath. They're always a bit chic. I'm surprising myself by saying this, but I'm a total fan. Also, I hate shorts (I have issues with my knees, but then who doesn't), and now I never have to wear any ever again. I don't even own a pair any more.
Now, as you can see in the picture, I have chosen my style and I'm sticking to it. V-neck, some waist, knee length, Bob's your uncle. I have to admit to being rather helpless in the fashion department. Luckily An was there for the purchase of four of those five dresses. (Thank you, An, my fashion guru.)
I wear them all the time. I hate it when I save my best pieces of clothing "for a special occasion" and then when one happens, I've grown out of the clothes or I don't like them any more. So - supermarket, park, garden, party - all the time. After all, at a party I'm more likely to feel fabulous anyway. It's in the supermarket I need some help with that.
Little digression: I used to always save the best for last in everything. No more. The best, if I so desired, always comes first. Who knows if you will even get to the last thing? I was fed up eating warm horrible stuff and then cold delicious stuff. I'm grabbing life wherever it lets me grab it, and part of that is having what I want and having it now.
Back to the dresses then. I can't honestly say which is my favourite, but the green one is definitely in the top five. The only problem is the deforestation. When you see me in jeans in summer, you can be pretty sure that I'm all fuzzy underneath.

I want to thank you all for the lovely lovely comments yesterday. They made me feel a million times better. This morning, I saw one of the school-gate-mothers, and subtly, yet not so subtly, put it out there that we might be friends. She's one of the seventies lot, but hey I have to work with what is there. I've probably scared her off for ever, but at least I tried.

In our family, on our birthdays, we eat dessert first! And to be honest, I do it more than just once a year. I'm all for the good stuff first.
ReplyDeleteFunny that the green one is 'one' of your top fives. hehe.
It's so awesome to find a style that suits you - I'm all for having multiple outfits of the same style in different colors. I should do a post about that too. I have six pairs of the same shoe in different colors. Seriously, I do. hehe.
So glad you're feeling better today!
I'm glad to hear you are doing better today, too. Baby steps, right?
ReplyDeleteI like the red dress alot. I didn't wear dresses until I was with Jeremiah...easy access. HAHA!
ReplyDeleteWell this is a refreshingly sensible post compared to mine! Yes I have also fallen hopelessly in love with The Dress this summer - tragically the one that fits best and is most flattering and also casual etc enough is from Boden, and I have thus marked myself (inaccurately) as West London yummy mummy. West London yes, the rest no. However I also got a very nice one from Next, so swings and roundabouts.
ReplyDeleteHmm, I don't wear dresses unless I have the opprotunity to glam it all up and get my hairs done as well. I own a tonne of them but would rather wear some yoga pants and tank tops most of the year round. Despite the fact I live in Canada and we only have 2 months of anything close to summer, or above the 15 celcius mark, it works better to not over expose too much too soon.
ReplyDeleteThat and I can't be bothered to even do my hair on most mornings so it stays atop my head in a claw clip or pony tail so Leigha can't pull on it for fun.
I too like the red one the best.
The only thing I don't like about dresses is that my thighs rub together. Oh and my crotch sweats too. Nice, huh? But they're so pretty and feminine!
ReplyDeleteSee even in a dress I feel like I have to wear bike shorts or something underneath to prevent chafing. And yeah, the whole deforestation issue is a problem.
ReplyDeleteBut that red dress is hot!
Glad you're feeling a bit better today!
I LOVE dresses. My favourite clothing. Especially when they're ones my mother or grandmother used to wear, have loads of those in my wardrobe.
ReplyDeleteI love dresses, but I always need foundation garments so I usually don't wear them much in the summer, I much prefer throwing on a pair of tights, so I wear them a lot of when it is cooler. But they look so pretty I must go shopping tomorrow and blame you, my husband may email you later...or not he does not even know how to check the bank balance online..
ReplyDeleteSend An my way...I need all the help I can get!
ReplyDeleteIts very hard to go wrong with a dress but watch me....I'm hopeless.
I like the green one!
Glad to hear you are feeling better. I'm a dress girl all the way too, especially in the summer. And yours, my dear, are LOVELY! I'm most jealous. xx
ReplyDelete@Christy - That's a very good idea. However, if we do dessert first at our house, we would never get to the other stuff.
ReplyDelete@Badass Geek - Baby steps indeed. Thanks.
@erin - Very valid point.
@Lucy Fishwife - Had to look up Boden (never heard of it) - I think I may need that pink velvet coat. Pretty!
@Meghan - I know what you mean. The whole sweatpants thing is not so common here. I'll wear them for the gym, but otherwise it's unheard of. Which my American friend hated. She nearly got stared off the playground a few times. Not saying that's good or anything.
ReplyDelete@Suzy Voices - Yes. That's annoying.
@Mad Woman - Yes, that red one is great. And thanks.
@laughykate - That's such a nice thing, to have your mother's and grandmother's dresses! My grandmother was tiny, and my mother never really wore dresses after she stopped being tiny, so that's not possible for me. I'd love to see pictures of these dresses sometime...
@mountainmomma - Feel free to blame me. I will blame you next time I buy something outrageous. Deal?
@Countess - I'm sure for a fee she could be persuaded to come over and help you.
ReplyDelete@Brit in Bosnia - Thank you very much!
It's a great idea. I'll have to investigate for myself.
