R.I.P. any rest I still had

We've had to retire the playpen. I found Marie with one leg over the edge and one stuck between the bars.

This means that for the next year or so I will have a lot of company in the bathroom. There will be no more sneaking off for some me-time. With some children, it might be possible to leave them unsupervised for five minutes. Not this one. The world is one big experiment waiting to happen for her. This is a problem as I have issues with observed defecation.
As if to illustrate my point, I just found her opening the front door. She turned the key of the double lock all the way and was nearly out onto the street. Sigh.

On a completely unrelated note, Marie regularly comes home from the creche looking like a complete whore. Two weeks ago, she had been "playing mummy" which apparently involves bright red lipstick, blue eyeshadow and a lot of blusher. I would be offended, only I literally don't own any make-up.
Last Friday, she came home like this:

I find whorishness surprisingly endearing in my children.

  1. Aaahhh....
My little girls loved make-up. It's just something in our DNA, I think.
Keep an eye on that baby. She is going places, that girl.

  3. I see what you mean... the things that happen there! if they are painting her up from nails to nose, what are they going to do when she gets a wee bit older!? modeling school?

She does seem to like to go places. A traveler!

    Great line !

When my cousin had her first daughter I did say to her, 'I can't wait to teach her how to dress like a hooker.'

  7. @michelle - I'm considering getting some to share between all of us - Jack has already expressed some interest in having his toenails painted.

@Ms. Moon - She IS going places. I'm sure of it. At the moment, though, I think she might need me to go along with her. :-)

@Aunt Becky - I'm not sure mine can yet. She did eat rather a lot of it sucking her thumb.

@Laura Lee - You are joking, I know, but you're not so far off. The people in charge of my kids' education sometimes show a remarkable lack of judgement. I'm saving the account of the little girls dressed as slappers dancing to "Barbie Girl" for another post!!!

@Steph - That would be very annoying. Mine let mosquitoes in - at least the season seems to be pretty much over for that.

@laughykate - I dressed my brother as a heroin whore once.

@A Modern Mother - Ouch. I hope Marie doesn't break hers because I'm still leaving her in her cot with bars upstairs to sleep. We're both not ready for her to walk about in the night. She wears a sleeping bag at night, though, so I'm hoping that will impede her a little.

  8. Gorgeous little red painted nails! If she's a tart, she must be a strawberry tart! At least they did a good job with the paint. When I paint my nails I get the polish all over the place.

  9. yeah, we lost the playpen when the bug started climbing out of it herself. Now we have created a life size play pen with play yards surronding the living room and play room. Except now she has figured out how to open the gate. I am screwed.
