Yay second trimester!

On the plus side:
  • Future baby. (Obviously.)
  • More energy.
  • Little kicks!
  • Nesting. (= Future tidier house.)
  • Little kicks!
  • Better appetite, not so much vomiting. No more vomiting blood. (I hope.)
  • Little kicks!
  • More positive thinking.
  • Little kicks!

On the slightly-less-plus side:
  • Nesting. (= Presently godawful house. I tidy by pulling everything into the middle of the room and sorting it into piles. After I've made the piles, I lose interest.)
  • Better appetite. As if these hips need that. I did so well losing that weight, dammit.
  • Stomach acid overload.
  • Still no hair dye, but I'm about to crack. Marie came out fine, and I had my hair done a couple of times with her.
  • The ITCHINESS! Oh, bloody hell, the itchiness. My belly, my boobs, my back - the damn itchiness!!!
I'm off to moisturise.

  1. Ah, the joy...I had constant heartburn with Owen from about 2 WEEKS on. really. This makes me almost glad we are done. ALMOST. Until I get to the part about the little kicks. Sigh....but I never had any appetite issues-I actually have a hard time gaining when I am pregnant. I gained 15 lbs with Owen-and that was with eating TWO dinners every night! But he was totally fine, 6 lb. 14 oz.

  2. :)

The vomiting blood bit was scary. I don't remember getting the itchies, I'm so grateful. I got sinus headaches at the end last time, though, for nearly two weeks before I hit the right remedy. Pregnancy... agh.

Isn't it only dark hairdye that's bad? You could go blonde! Or get henna?

Good luck with the nesting. Throw stuff out?

  3. Ah, henna. I did my mom's for years before she let her hair go silver this year. That smell will always remind me of our talks.

  4. Love the little kicks!

Until my son started doing major gymnastics around 7 months, too painful for words. I still tell him off for it and he's now 8.

Best wishes for your second trimester.

  5. There must be some naturopathic or homeopathic or generally eco-green-holistic-healthy remedy for itching in pregnancy. Google?

  6. mmmm... second trimester is my favorite. Especially the sex dreams I always had in my 5th month!

  8. Vomiting blood? Are you telling the truth, woman? I have never heard of that happening. And why no hair dye? I never listened to what the doctors or books were saying. Well I read them but then immediately forgot. And I had a glass of red wine with dinner, almost daily. The worst for me was the heartburn. Probably from the wine.

I am so glad I didn't have any nesting until the day before labor started. so much easier.

  10. @Kori - I LOST seven kilos (14-ish lbs?) with Jack, before I put on twelve. All the vomiting. Not so this time, though - I put on a little weight.

@Steph - The best. BTW, where did you get your henna?

@Jo - You got the blood, too, eh?
I've been wondering about henna. I just need to find a good shop. I am NOT going blonde. I'm too Southern looking - I think it wouldn't work.
I am throwing stuff out! It feels great. Somehow I need the hormones to be right, otherwise I just don't seem to be able to.

@Calif Lorna - I remember the feet digging into my ribs. Luckily that never got too sore for me. Must be bad, if it's two months of agony. Jack only turned "the right way" a couple of weeks before he was born, and I didn't even notice that he was turning. I suppose we all have our own painful parts to pregnancy.

@Iota - Moisturising does help, luckily. I just don't like to do it in winter. I think I'd be a lot less itchy if it was summer. Last night, though, I got a full layer and will be repeating this nightly.

@michelle - Sex dreams are lovely! I'm hoping for more frequent ones now. :-)

@Heather - It's awful. I found myself absentmindedly scratching my boob in a restaurant the other day. I don't think anyone saw.

@Angie - I always tell the truth. :-) My doctor said the stomach acid had eroded my oesophagus (I think) so much that when I was vomiting hard, there were tears in the side. Which resulted in a nice bit of blood at the end. I had it when I was pregnant with Marie as well. I'm now eating antacids every night, so it shouldn't happen again.

@geeks in rome - That would be much more convenient! But messier.

  11. Hurray for second trimester! That was my favourite bit! (I also had a very vomtastic first trimester... and last actually!)

    Little kicks VERY exciting :) :) :)

  12. yeah- henna is the way to go, get some organic stuff in a good bio shop.

For me it was rampant nosebleeds. All our pillows still have alarming looking stains, I sometimes have to make hasty excuses when visitors see them. I wonder if they believe me.

  14. Any chance we could get some belly shots? I would love that.

  15. Yay for second trimester. Supposed to be the best out of the three. Don't worry about the piles. If you managed to sort them out, they would reconvene all on their own. I promise. Sorry to hear you were vomiting blood. That's pretty horrific. Hope you are doing better now. BTW Little kicks are the greatest.

  16. The indigestion was the worst for me, but luckily it didn't really start till the 3rd trimester. Still, at least it curbs the appetite!

(Have you talked to your doctor about the itching? I seem to remember that itching can be a sign of a liver problem in pregnancy - so check that out if you haven't already....)

  17. Oh my, you got a bad 1st trimester. After reading that I feel I can hardly moan (and how I love to moan!).
So when did it all get better? I'm still waiting and twiddling my thumbs. I particularly wonder when my energy levels will get back to the point where I can manage to at least switch on the TV at night.
