I don't do subtle when it comes to Spring

To me, it's not properly Spring until the Japanese cherry blossoms are here. And they have arrived! I'm in pink floral heaven for at least a week.

The children have both been trained to point them out to me, so I don't have to miss a single one. The two year old particularly melts my heart when she shouts out "Japanse kerselaar!"

I spit on magnolia. Forsythia I consider a poor relation. Japanese cherry, you have my heart.

  4. Ooh I love those. Though I'm not sure I'd know a magnolia or a forsythia if I tripped over one...

  6. I'm so jealous. While it's lovely to have bougainvillea blooming - you can't beat cherry blossom.

  8. We do not get the Japanese cherry. So sad.
This reminds me of a dream my daughter had the other night after looking up the meanings of different flowers in tattoos. She dreamed she had gotten a magnolia tattoo but somehow, it had cherry blossoms on it too. It upset her because she did not like what the cherry blossoms symbolized which is something about purity.
    Tee-hee.
    That's my girl.

  10. @nappy valley girl - They are on the verge of fully in bloom here. I'm hoping they'll last a while.

@Angie Muresan - I know. :-) I was exaggerating. The only one that really bugs me is this one particular kind of magnolia that seems to be ALL over Flanders. As if there aren't any other varieties.

@Calif Lorna - Ooh, I don't know. I do love them as well and we don't get them here. I do go completely crazy about Southern flowers.

@Danielle - Hey! Lovely to 'see' you!

@Ms. Moon - Strange that they are associated with purity. Something about the lush sensuality of the flowers would make that strange to me. I do agree with whichever girl that purity is not something to be aiming for per se.

  11. If you spit on my beloved Magnolias again, I am going to kick the next Japanese cherry tree.

  12. It's too cold here for those but it is lovely. I unfortunatly cannot handle anything with flowers ( I puff up liek a blow fish )so am stuck inside until...June :o But it is a very lovely tree.

  14. I'm cleaning the virtual spit off my magnolia right now... (Just kidding. I don't really have a magnolia tree. We just have a crape myrtle and a sad little tree that is looking like it might die and my husband has been spending every hour when he is not at his 5 jobs trying to resurrect. You can feel free to spit on that one, cuz I'm about done with it.)
