Lazy lazy summer

The summer holidays have started. Two full months of sheer nothingness. (And a birth, but let's disregard that for the moment.) The children started off not badly today by sleeping until nine. I think with a little bit of training I can get that up to ten. By the fifteenth of July, I fully intend for breakfast to be around 11.30.

The heat has also made an appearance. For the last couple of weeks, it's been gearing up to this Friday, with the promise of 35 degrees. I'm just hoping to still find my ankles by that time. I will just sit in the garden with my feet in the paddling pool. I have to go out and buy crisps and ice lollies. Summer things.

My brain isn't working.

  1. Mwa, that sounds like heaven. Ankles and a fully functional brain are an optional extra during summer for most of us anyway.
    Relax and enjoy.

  2. Your brain is in your uterus, dear. It will return soon.

  3. Just read your comment on mine... shudder - am so not ready for no3... yet!

If you manage to get the sleeping longer thing to work can you let me know so I can try it - Toddlergirl refuses to sleep past 6.30, strangely I am beginning to be able to sleep through the shouts of 'Mummy I AWAKE'...

  4. @Countess - I will try. Oh yes. Summer WILL be good.

@Ms. Moon - And afterwards it will be in my breasts. I know, I've been there. But it still frustrates me just now.

@Muddling Along Mummy - It was a joke! The sleeping thing - my children are just good sleepers I'm afraid. If I add an hour at night, they give me an extra hour in the morning. Most of the time. And otherwise I put them in front of the TV for snooze time. I hope this third one sleeps well too because I am horrified at the war stories of parents who never get to sleep.

  5. Wow, this comment may rank up there as dullest ever, but I got those medical compression socks to wear to keep my ankles and feet from turning into sausages. They are not sexy. They are too hot, yes, it is true, but that baby was due on 08/08/08 and I just couldn't care for the older child and help with the remodel in the bathroom and go to work with feet in extraordinary new sizes, so I sucked it up and wore "don't have a stroke" socks. It helped, sadly.

  7. I so remember when I was pregnant in the very hot summer of 1999 with swelling ankles!

Let's think of the positives - oh yes! You will have a gorgeous baby at the end of it all! Keep remembering!

  8. aaah, sleep until 9, sounds lovely! Good luck with the ankles. When I was expecting Sarah it was the hottest summer ever in Switzerland and mine looked like sausages. But I didn't have a paddling pool ;-)

    have a lovely summer!

  9. Mine are sleeping late too. But they are going to bed really late - which means I don't really get any evening peace. I guess you can't have everything!

  10. I'm pleased to have found your blog and am very jealous at the thought of having breakfast at 11:30!

    Enjoy the ice lollies :)

  11. @GingerB - Wow. I don't think they're that bad. Mild swelling only so far. I will think about the socks - I have some from surgery - if it gets worse. I can't even imagine going out to work just now, let alone remodel a bathroom. You must have been exhausted!

@Danielle - Oh, today was hell. I just checked the weather forecast and tomorrow it will even be five degrees hotter or more. I am toast.
As for your hoping for an all hot summer - ha fucking ha!

@diney - I will. Remember. Or try to. In between bitching and sighing and putting cold compresses on every exposed bit of skin.

@Elisa - The paddling pool went up today but only after seven pm. When I finally put my feet in it, I swear it was the first time today I didn't want to cry because of the heat. I think I'm going to spend all of tomorrow in it. I think it will be a bikini day.

@nappy valley girl - I bragged too soon. 7.45 this morning! I knew I shouldn't write it really.

@PigletinFrance - Welcome! And I refer you to my preceding response. :-)

  12. I love the idea of optional ankles in summer time :)

    And brains are overrated anyway.

  13. My brain is totally fried. I'd like to blame summer, but sadly, I think I'm just dumb.

  14. I was so ready to make another comment on the brain, or lack thereof, but seeing how many there are, I'll pass. Except I have nothing to say. So, Ciao for now.
