- She knows me so well

- Was it the moon or something?
No one slept in this house last night. Well, Babes would have had it not been for the rest of us. No one is sick and no loud noises were made in the neighbourhood, but I could not sleep and neither could all three of the children.
It turned into a farce which by two o'clock I had called "Upstairs Downstairs" to the blogging audience in my head (as you do). No one cried (not even me), no one was annoying - it was all "I'm thirsty" and "I need to pee" and "I have a dirty nappy" and "I'm hungry." I tried not to wake poor Babes but the second poopy nappy was a poopy bridge too far to me, so he did get sent downstairs for that at twenty to three. After which it took me a good hour to get Charlie back to sleep.
Paradoxically, this complete lunacy has made the back-to-school fantabulousness even better because when I asked that gorgeous Babes to get the children ready for school and take them there as well so I could get a measly hour's sleep, he kindly did so and only woke me up at ten (!) with a hungry baby for me to feed and by that time he had taken the day off, been to the shops and was making a beef stew for our dinner!
Did anyone else experience freak sleeplessness last night? I'm seriously wondering if it was something to do with the moon or the weather.

Actually now you come to mention it I slept terribly last night - nothing big just anxiety and tossing and turning. I'd assumed it was to do with my monthly cycle but guess moon could be a contributor too (I find I sleep less well around the full moon)
ReplyDeleteWe are all so knackered from the flight back from Singapore that Huzz and I were asleep by 8.45 the past two nights (and the kids at 6.30)! But we've definitely had those kind of restless nights on a full moon though.
ReplyDeleteGreat presents. I think I need that book - I'm way too stressed out with the kiddos these days.
It was not a great night of sleep here either but I am blaming it on lightening and thunder and my hands going numb and tingling and waking me up.
ReplyDeleteYour husband gets an award.
I slept like a damn rock myself. Yay for Babes taking the day off and cooking.
ReplyDeleteAnd that book looks good.
ha ..i slept sooo good last night..but i was drunk and exhausted after writing a 5 pages column about sexparties...so..no wonder is lept like a baby..or in this case like a babes:-)
ReplyDeleteoh..and if you are into buddhism you really should read my article about sex & buddhism!!!
Sleep here wasn't too bad... just the usual :/
ReplyDeleteI need that book!!! What a great present.
Am sending you an email, gotta ask something about breastfeeding in Belgium...

I'm not a Poo-ologist or anything, but that red poo does not look healthy.
ReplyDeleteYes, I had a crappy nigh's sleep last night, and so did Bodhi!
ReplyDeleteMust be the moon, I've been there before when everyone else said the same. Danielle is back to front anyway, so if he slept well, something must be wrong!
giggle, Poo-ologist.
Babes is a treasure.
ReplyDeleteSunday night was not good but more to do with a wine too far than any moon cycle. Last night I slept like a babe (without a 2.40am nappy change :-)
Actually I had a good night last night, for the first time in forever. Hope tonight is better. I am getting that Buddhism for mothers book!
ReplyDeletehave jet lag, whole family was up on and off half the bloomin' night too.
ReplyDeleteI didn't sleep too great, but that is because my French was snoring. Each time I poked him, he would say "I'm not snoring" go back to sleep, and start "not snoring" again within a few minutes.
ReplyDeleteI had a crappy night too, but I blame my son and his music, not that it was loud, but I could hear the base boom booming away, and I had a bad dream. But normally I wouldn't hear the base, so it must have been in the air!!

Poo-ologist!!! When we would discuss the bowel movements of my first child, my husband dubbed me a "forensic scatologist" because of the depth of my analysis. And even today I asked him to describe it for me so I could be full of knowledge (and crap) at the doctor's offifce visit.
ReplyDeleteWe slept poorly because we did the previous two nights, so even though the wee one cut me some slack I still tossed, turned, flopped, and at one point considered puking so I brought a little plastic barf basin to bed just in case, which I later dropped on my husband's head (still empty) just to keep him from sleeping well when I couldn't>
I hope this phase passes soon.
I've been struggling to sleep since Christmas. I think I switch off over this period and when I start working again I just can't turn off. My brain just starts whizzing through what wants doing tomorrow as soon as I close my eyes.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you feed the husband?
ReplyDeleteI didn't get much sleep either the night before last. That was because of baby though. Who in turn slept beautifully last night (apart from the 3 hourly feeds) but at 5am my eyes were wide open and I could not sleep properly anymore. Of course I'm furious, how can I possibly be insomniac when for once baby isn't?
ReplyDeleteI had a rubbish night's sleep last night - I've been on HRT for 11 years (since my daughter was born!) but have suddenly started having horrendous night sweats. Either I need to get it checked, or I've been over doing the chocolate the last few weeks and it is my body going into sugar overdrive! Also, when tossing and turning last night I remembered I had put a pork in cider casserole in the Aga (simmering oven) at 11 am the previous morning......so I had to dash downstairs at 3 am and remove the charred remains from the Aga, thus setting off the smoke alarm. Perhaps I should do a post on this. At least we both know we are not the only ones who had a bad night!
ReplyDeleteAh yes I get those nights. Usually we get a run of bad nights for a couple of weeks and then there's a night where no one wakes. Except me. And I'm lying awake wondering why the children haven't woken and are they okay (they're fine btw, just asleep). And I'm just waiting for one of them to wake up. I finally get back to sleep at 5am and the boys are in our room at 5.30am. The joy. I need a lie-in and beef stew.
ReplyDeleteyessss! little guy sucked at sleep last night and it was rare as he's been good lately! i almost cried when dave left this morning i was so tired! well glad ur babes took the day off, sounds like it turned lovely....
ReplyDeleteI can't remember, but I think it was just the usual sleeplesness for me, trying to sleep on my left, waking up with a sore hip, labouriously turning over to the right, rearranging pillows, attempting to go to sleep again, realising i need the loo / a sip of water, dealing with that, rearranging pillows again, going back to sleep, repeat. Interspersed with 2-3 wake ups from Emm, and eventually her coming into our bed at half six or so, for some sleep if we're lucky, and squirming and talking if we're unlucky!
ReplyDeleteI know, ...it's just nature getting me used to the idea of interrupted sleep for the next six months or so!
Sorry love but didn't sleep because I was....yes you guessed it...having sex. x
ReplyDeleteGood husbands are good. I don't think I could do it alone. Glad your hubby was good to you. Since I lost my job....I don't sleep at all. Right now it's 1 AM.
