Doing it froggy style

Every year about this time, the frogs in our garden start to migrate. If the terrace is wet, they will hop right up to the French doors of the living room.

I say they migrate, but I suppose technically they attempt to migrate because our row of houses is a rather insurmountable obstacle. This doesn't seem to bother them very much though - they just get it on right outside the window.

Shagging frogs

I always love the arrival of the frogs - partially because they stay nicely the other side of the window and disappear again after a couple of hours without leaving any mess, and partially because they make such a big show of being happy to be alive after Winter and positively extatic about multiplying and starting the next generation of slimy little hoppers.

You're no use, I need the other kind

This year, I was extra happy as it provided a few hours of entertainment to Marie, temporarily distracting her from the tiresome business of testing her mother.

"LALALA! I can hear you, you know!"

I just thought I'd share the joy with you all. You've got to love a frog in Spring.

  3. This one time I went frog hunting when I was 8 or so...our goal: catch a frog of every size. We caught a small, medium, and large size toad frog and placed them in a shoe box with a few amenities (grass, dirt) and placed them under my bed for the night. No surprise the next morning they weren't there. We found dead frogs the whole summer...
true story...i couldn't make that up if I tried.

  8. Hello :) Eep. I do like frogs to look at, to watch them go about their funny froggy business... I'm just absolutely terrified of stepping on one.

  9. Cute! From afar :-) But I have to admit that the idea of having so many frogs in my back yard freaks me out a bit. From that point of view, I am SUCH a girl :-)

  10. I'm no amphibian expert, but are you sure those are frogs and not toads?

  11. Was making packetups in kitchen last week when a frog hopped onto my foot. Eeurgh! The furry 4 leggeds, or Cooking Fats as I fondly refer to them, love bringing them in. Free squeaky toys to be deposited all around the house! Ribbit. Never see them shagging though. Did see two shagging cats on my paper round though. Seriously suspect I'm the only one not getting any this spring!!!

  12. That is a sure sign of spring. Do you have water in your garden? Or are they happy enough with just some dampness? Utah is a high desert climate, and while we do have frogs them seem uncommon here.

    I am jealous!

  15. Um am I the only one that thinks this is so gross? I have never heard of such a thing. We have geese where I live. I love the geese. People don't like the geese poop so they're trying t get rid of them in our town. What is wrong with everyone?? So many towns would LOVE to have geese.

Try giving these frogs a map or GPS and I'm sure they'll find their way around the houses.

Frogs! Every spring as a child it was my job to fish shagging frogs out of the pool and take them to the local pond before my dad threw a load of chemicals in there for summer. I still have a soft spot for them.

These days, we have a garden full of toads :-( But if you squint a little, they almost look like frogs!

(PS Congratulations, you managed to drag me out of lurkdom. I think this is my first comment anywhere in months...thanks for visiting me!)
